Fermionic Linear Optics and Matchgates
نویسنده
چکیده
Fermionic linear optics is efficiently classically simulatable. Here it is shown that the set of states achievable with fermionic linear optics and particle measurements is the closure of a low dimensional Lie group. The weakness of fermionic linear optics and measurements can therefore be explained and contrasted with the strength of bosonic linear optics with particle measurements. An analysis of fermionic linear optics is used to show that the two-qubit match-gates and the simulatable matchcircuits introduced by Valiant generate a monoid of extended fermionic linear optics operators. A useful interpretation of efficient classical simulations such as this one is as a simulation of a model of non-deterministic quantum computation. Problem areas for future investigations are suggested.

متن کاملPermanents, Bosons and Linear Optics
Expressions with permanents in quantum processes with bosons deserved recently certain attention. A difference between couple relevant models is discussed in presented work. An oscillator model has certain resemblance with matchgate circuits also known as “fermionic linear optics” and effectively simulated on classical computer. The possibility of effective classical computations of average par...
متن کاملA Collapse Theorem for Holographic Algorithms with Matchgates on Domain Size at Most 4
Holographic algorithms with matchgates are a novel approach to design polynomial time computation. It uses Kasteleyn’s algorithm for perfect matchings, and more importantly a holographic reduction. The two fundamental parameters of a holographic reduction are the domain size k of the underlying problem, and the basis size l. A holographic reduction transforms the computation to matchgates by a ...
متن کاملQuantum atom optics with fermions from molecular dissociation.
We study a fermionic atom optics counterpart of parametric down-conversion with photons. This can be realized through dissociation of a Bose-Einstein condensate of molecular dimers consisting of fermionic atoms. We present a theoretical model describing the quantum dynamics of dissociation and find analytic solutions for mode occupancies and atomic pair correlations, valid in the short time lim...
